I think teenagers who get into comics really get behind the whole Marvel vs. DC mentality. Marvel has really positioned itself as the “realistic” and “grown-up” comic company. As those readers grow older, they begin to see the Marvel smoke-screen and it loses luster. Those that stick around realize that Marvel is not the be-all/end-all and seek out new stories and ideas outside of Marvel and DC.

I can’t explain the DC side of this equation and why some don’t move on. Marvel has those too, but the DC hangers-on seem really clingy to the universe.

Eric’s review of assuming Legion of Superheroes was for babies is kinda what my assumption of the whole DC Universe was growing up. Before the pre-Vertigo Vertigo books (Hellblazer, Shade, Sandman) I think I’d bought about 4 DC books. To this day I have yet to read a Justice League book or Superman book. Meanwhile I’d buy pretty much anything that said Marvel on it like say Speedball or Spitfire & the Trouble Shooters. It’s funny to me how at some point (I’d guess the mid 1990s) the only Marvel fans seemed to die off a bit while the DC only folks still seem alive & well….

Eric is right, The Dark Night is awful as a Batman movie (it would be fine as a James Bond movie or something). When they reboot Batman again people will think whatever’s next is awesome & lump Dark Knight with Batman Returns.

I remember as a kid when Mike McMahon drew some issues of Alien Legion & I was like, “This guy draws with crayons!” Now I would probably love the style, but then it was crap to me.

I think this is the first time I said to myself, “I want to see this episode!” Not sure if it’s because of love of The Defenders or a feeling of despair.

I heard somewhere that the whole Herbie thing was actually because The Human Torch was licensed out for his own cartoon (a la Thing Ring) that never came to fruition.

I think there are people who like to hold physical music items in their hands be they vinyl or CDs with booklets & other people who want to hear a lot of music but don’t want it taking space in their house. I think whatever the successful digital comic distribution device for comics is actually going to be will be designed for magazines (& probably pornography in particular if I bother to think about it) as comics is too small of a niche.

I liked that Hulk movie with the exception of not liking the CGI Hulk. But I prefer the Ed Norton one myself. I think there’s a thing going where a lot of comic book movies are “just action movies” with comic book stars. They could as easily be James Bond or something most of the time….

I’m pretty sure his brain works faster than the average human’s. I would think that it would have to – if nothing else, the synapses would have to fire more quickly in order to get his body to react.

Wow… I learned a couple’a things by listening to this episode. First that Lex Luthor’s middle name is Joe (after Joe Schuster) and secondly that apparently I’m a girl (cause I’ve always loved both Wolverine and Solomon Grundy).
And I totally think Eric and I should redo all 8 episodes of League Night and have a special “Crisis” episode where Earth 1 and Earth 2 League Nights meet. And confuse people. And we kill a Flash.
You guys rock!
